Tech giant embraces Generative AI

Apple Inc is bucking the trend when it comes to maintaining a strong workforce – when many of its peers are announcing layoffs.

GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, reported Apple job postings were up by 23% month-on-month in May 2023. As Apple intensifies its hiring efforts, particularly in the artificial intelligence (AI) domain – signalling a move into Generative AI, aligning with its industry counterparts.

GlobalData’s Job Analytics Database reveals Apple’s hiring predominantly revolves around the US with the country accounting for more than 75% of the total number of jobs posted in May 2023. Meanwhile, there is an increased focus on select areas for jobs posted in the UK, Israel, and Japan.

In the UK, the company has posted jobs around Register Transfer Level (RTL) design engineer, Apple News, and Apple Services Academy. In Israel, the company has posted jobs involving physical design engineers, CAD engineers, and imaging and sensing technology. In Japan, Apple posted jobs relating to Apple Pay, physical design engineering, and Apple Services Academy.

Apple seeks to hire AI and Machine Learning (ML) engineers across countries such as the US, Ireland, Singapore, and China. In the US, ‘Machine Learning Engineer – Generative AI’ role looks at implementing ML algorithms that process data in different Apple products by leveraging innovative Generative models to build fundamental applications.

Sherla Sriprada, Business Fundamentals Analyst at GlobalData, said: “The growth in job postings becomes more significant when compared to the hiring trend of some of its peers. For instance, job postings by Alphabetand Amazon.com decreased in May 2023 compared to the previous month. Based on Apple’s robust hiring efforts in the field of AI, it appears that the company is poised to embrace Generative AI, following the footsteps of its industry counterparts, which have achieved notable advancements in this domain.”
