The Australian government unveiled a fresh initiative on Wednesday aimed at shedding light on the advantages of employing ex-service personnel.

Veterans Affairs Minister Matt Keogh emphasised that the campaign will spotlight the experiences of five former service members who have transitioned into unexpected professions.

“This effort aims to enlighten employers about the diverse skill sets ex-service personnel possess and offer guidance to ensure their success in civilian workplaces,” Keogh stated.

Highlighting skills such as leadership, teamwork, adaptability, and resilience under pressure, the minister countered the misconception that veterans are somehow “damaged” when they seek civilian employment.

“While the Australian Defence Force provides exceptional training, many veterans struggle to convey their skills effectively to potential civilian employers,” Keogh noted.

As part of the $24-million Veteran Employment Programme, the government aims to bolster employment opportunities for veterans and assist businesses in harnessing the benefits of hiring them.
