Our Future of Talent event on 20 March will showcase actionable insights from the report. Attendees to the event will receive the full report on the day.

Key findings from the report include:

  • The case for skills-based organisations: While 67% of leaders rank retention as a top priority, only 22% have a strategy for skills-based practices. Evidence shows hiring for skills is five times more predictive of job performance than hiring for education, and removing degree barriers increases diversity by 15–20%.
  • The challenges of SBOs: 50% of organisations feel overwhelmed defining key skills, and cultural resistance remains a major obstacle. GSK’s approach of fewer, well-aligned skills demonstrates a framework for success.
  • Technology and AI’s role: Only 31% of organisations currently use AI for talent processes like shortlisting, but its potential to unlock personalised learning, internal mobility, and skills gap analysis is undeniable.
  • Looking ahead: The report highlights the concept of “pixelation,” unbundling work into skills-based tasks, as a strategy for future-proofing organisations. Continuous learning, creativity, and inclusive leadership are identified as key to thriving in a skills-first world.
